LOCAL PHYSICAL THERAPIST DEVELOPS INNOVATIVE,
ACTIVE WARM-UP FOR COMPETITIVE SWIMMERS

DOVER, Del. (April 8, 2009)
– Local business owner and founder of Edelman Spine and Orthopaedic Physical Therapy (ESOPT), George T. Edelman MPT, OCS, MTC, recently developed an innovative active warm-up specifically for USA Swimming.

The Sports Medicine Committee of USA Swimming has embraced Edelman’s innovative, sport specific, active warm-up for competitive swimmers as a superior approach when compared to traditional methods.

“The latest evidence reveals that traditional pre-workout and pre-competition stretching negatively impacts muscle performance,” Edelman reports. “Dynamic warm-ups have been documented to produce short term and long term performance enhancements in power, agility, strength, muscle endurance, and anaerobic capacity. This new swimming-specific active warm-up will better prepare our swimmers for workout and competition.”

The rationale for the shift to an active warm-up as well as details of the program can be found on USA Swimming’s web page (www.usaswimming.org), the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine web page (www.aossm.org) or at the Edelman Spine & Orthopaedic Physical Therapy web page (www.esopt.com).  Click here to review the active warm-up.

Edelman is a member of the High Performance Network for USA Swimming and has worked with the national governing body for the sport of swimming for more than eight years developing programs for swimmers, speaking at their national convention and providing physical therapy services on the pool deck for the National Swim Team.

ESOPT opened in January of 2006 and serves the greater Dover, Del., area with physical therapy services. For additional information, please visit www.esopt.com.
